CakeBlast Oscar Picks For February 22, 2009

Feb 4th, 2009 Posted in Actors, Actresses, Entertainment, Movies, Television | 2 comments »

I will not pretend that I have seen all the movies up for Oscar consideration. Going to the movies is a rare treat and  camcorded theatrical films are horrible quality (not to mention illegal) so I do not download them. Anyway, it is fun to pick winners based on my knowledge of movies and past winners.

Best Actor in a Leading Role

I am going to go with Mickey Rourke. Sean Penn would have been my pick, but he won the last time he was nominated in this catagory (for Mystic River). Rourke is finally going to get his due after some turbulent years. They are two of the finest actors of our times, but this shall be Rourke’s year.

Best Actor In A Supporting Role

All the hype is centering on Heath Ledger, but I am going to go with Josh Brolin for his role in Milk. I loved Heath Ledger and felt his performance in Brokeback Mountain was Oscar Worthy. I even mentioned the possibility in a previous blog of an Oscar for Ledger helping The Dark Knight surpass Titanic as the #1 box-office film ever. but a posthumous Oscar only pays respect to a great artist. This prestigious award could make Brolin’s career.

I am sure the Academy considered Brolin’s star turning role as George Bush in Oliver Stone’s W, but instead of nominating him for a best actor award, they chose to give him accolades for his performance in a movie that they want to pay respect to without disrespecting many great performances in other films.

Best Actress in a Leading Role

I believe Kate Winslet will win this category.  Winslet has been nominated several times in the past, but has never won an Oscar. This year she took home the Golden Globe for best actress and I am hoping she will get her first Academy Award as well. Winslet is one of the best actresses of our generation and certainly deserves it.

Best Actress In A Supporting Role

My prediction is that Amy Adams will win this award for her role in Doubt. In this movie, she plays a nun who accuses a priest of abusing a black student. The Academy loves these types of roles, and Adams has been on a role in recent years with both commercial (Enchanted) and critical (Junebug) successes.

Best Animated Feature Film

Wall-E is considered by many critics to be one of the best animated films ever. I thought it was great, and it is also the first film I ever took my toddler to see in a theater. I consider this to be a no-brainer.

Rockin’ Roseanne Terrorizes Little Kids In Her Schoolgirl Miniskirt

Nov 8th, 2008 Posted in Actresses, Celebrities, Comedy, DVD Reviews, Entertainment | no comment »

Roseanne Barr is a very scary woman. In her 2006 DVD Calling All Kids, Barr dresses up as a little girl in pigtails to sing songs that are supposedly for children. But these music videos are actually quite frightening and inappropriate for small children.

In the clip that I have included below, Barr wears a Catholic schoolgirl outfit and pretends to Read the rest of this entry »

Hannah Montana Has The Candy Business Licked

Miley Ray Cyrus, better known as Hannah Montana, has put her name on many products. The newest addition to her long line of branded items is gummy candy shaped like…I don’t know if I can say this on a family blog. Nevermind, I already posted the pictures (below) so I may as well say it. Disney star, Hannah Montana, has added her name to a line of sinfully silly, candy penises.

This is a very bold move on the part of Cyrus. I guess she is trying to capitalize on the exposure she received from doing the nude photo shoot earlier this year. I can understand why most famous people would appreciate all the free publicity, but Hannah Montana hardly needs help spreading her name and image to the public. Cyrus had erected a huge empire before thrusting her Read the rest of this entry »

Daily’s Big Adventure as Buttercup & Mumble

Elizabeth Daily, the fabulous voice-over artist behind my favorite PowerPuff Girl, Buttercup, was also the voice of baby Mumble in the hit film Happy Feet. It is hard to believe that it took me so long to make the connection. I am a huge fan of the Powerpuff Girls and a penguin fanatic who purchased Happy Feet the week it was released on DVD.

I have also followed Elizabeth Daily’s career for years. Daily began her career on television, appearing in shows such as Laverne & Shirley, CHiPs, and Fame, before being cast in Read the rest of this entry »

How Clean Is Your House?

Aug 6th, 2008 Posted in Actresses, Celebrities, Entertainment, Television | one comment »

I have been watching How Clean Is Your House on the BBC station for about six months, and it is now one of my favorite shows on television. The show centers on two women, Kim Woodburn and Aggie MacKenzie, who travel to some of the filthiest homes in England. At these homes, Kim and Aggie meet with the owners and try to find out how their homes became so disgusting.

After talking to the owners, they take sample swabs from different parts of the houses and have them analyzed for viruses, bacteria, and other microscopic nasties. After discerning the dangers of living in such horrific habitats, they commence to cleaning.

Please do not confuse this show with the American show, Clean House. The American version features a star lacking the charisma and personality of HCIYH’s main stars, and also showcases houses that are not nearly as messy.  After seeing the foulness of the homes Kim and Aggie visit, I no longer feel bad about the clutter in my own house.

Kim and Aggie share many inventive cleaning tips each episode, but what really makes the show work is the great chemistry they have with each other. Kim seems to be the more dominant of the two, but they both know how to put their foot down when it comes to abolishing dirt. As the cleaning progresses, the two women have a very humorous way of parleying with each other, that makes the show just as entertaining as it is informative. Both the ladies have a slightly disturbing habit of sniffing some of the most repugnant objects (ex. clumps of muck in clogged drains) ever witnessed, but I guess that’s just part of the show.

Besides the personalities of the two stars, they offer a lot of useful information. I have used some of the tips (at my own risk) offered, and they really do work. In the future, I may share some of the suggestions that I follow, on this blog. In the meantime I recommend watching this show yourself.

The Lifetime television network has recently began airing How Clean is Your House?. Having the show on two stations, means there are twice as many opportunities to catch it when it is on. I don’t normally watch Lifetime, since it is a station specifically for women, but HCIYH is exceptional. Check it out!
