Cakeblast Back Up To Speed!
After restoring my site and databases from backups, I was still having trouble with my WP permalinks. Every onsite link that I clicked led me to a page that said, “The requested URL was not found on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered.”
In a feeble attempt to correct this, I actually went through the trouble of uninstalling wordpress again. When I tried to reinstall with fantastico, it wouldn’t allow me even though I deleted my database, database username, and all associated WP files. I don’t know why fantastico wouldn’t reinstall wordpress, but a manual install went smoothly. However, the whole effort was in vain because the permalinks still didn’t work.
After checking Wordpress support forums for an answer, I discovered that I had to rebuild my permalinks from Admin < Settings < Permalinks. It was very easy and now everything works fine!! I still lost two posts and some links that I recently moved/added to my link page, but all-in-all I can breathe again.
I have been frustrated with the whole ordeal but I guess it could be much worse. Although I am still disgruntled about losing 5 days of work (not counting when the site was down), I feel really sorry for any qualityhostonline customers who do not back up everything regularly.
I am now going to configure my site to do a backup after every post, and perhaps I can remember to do manual backups after any little changes I make. A big thank you goes out to my seven loyal readers for sticking through this with me.
