McCain < Bush

John McCain has more in common with George W. Bush than lousy policies and a hunger for more war. They both only have their careers because of their powerful and affluent Daddies.

I usually don’t pay attention to the upbringings of political nominees, even though I probably should. Barack Obama talks about his childhood all the time, and even wrote a book called Dreams From My Father. John McCain seems to avoid the issue, and now I realize why.

John McCain’s father, John McCain Sr., just like George W. Bush’s father, George Bush Sr., bought his son’s way into the same college he had gone to. The Bushs both went to Yale, and the McCains both went to U.S. Naval Academy. Mr. Bush Sr. was an exemplary student, but his son was below average. Mr. McCain Sr. was an exemplary student, but his son graduated in the bottom 5 students in his class.

Yes, John McCain, the Republican nominee for President of the United States, ranked 894 out of 899 students! Barack Obama, on the other hand, ranked 212 out of 3829 at Harvard Law, one of the toughest schools in the country.

I know, I know, book smarts ain’t everything. And John McCain III is a war hero, right? While it is true that McCain’s plane was shot down, it wasn’t the first plane that he lost. Before he ever flew his first combat mission, McCain lost 4 other planes, including one that he crashed, while flying back from an out of state football game.

The point is, that McCain wouldn’t have been allowed to fly if it hadn’t of been for his famous Daddy, Admiral John McCain. It was heroic that he fought for his country, but it was no more heroic than any other man or woman who served. Being held as a POW wasn’t his choice, so I don’t consider his imprisonment heroic. In fact, he was given preferential treatment because his father was an important figure in our military (making him a good bargaining chip) and because he was willing to share military information.

I am not trying to discredit his service, but doesn’t this make him less of a hero than the brave soldiers who would rather die, than offer information to their captors? Regardless of the information he shared, in the article linked above he admits, that without his father’s fame, he probably would have died from his wounds like so many other POWs. It is also telling, that all the awards and medals McCain received were not for being a great soldier, but instead were for getting shot down and taken captive.

The real point is that McCain should not have been flying. He would have just been another infantryman if it wasn’t for his Daddy helping him become a pilot, despite his lack of intelligence and flying ability. John McCain also should not be president. If it wasn’t for his Daddy, John McCain would not be a hero. He would not even be a Senator.

Since I am comparing McCain and Bush in this blog, I may as well remind everyone how George Bush Sr., helped Bush get into the Texas Air National Guard despite low aptitude scores and lack of flying ability. If it wasn’t for his Daddy, George W. Bush would not be president. He would have never even been a Governor. Bush would have been just like McCain would have been, except a little smarter..which isn’t saying much.
