dakota-god-bless-afghanThere are many shower gift ideas to choose from. Since each product is custom engraved, embroidered, or etched, you can have unique baby shower messages added to each gift. Other baby gift ideas include baptism presents and keepsakes, baby christening gifts, christening accessories, personalized rompers, and new baby invitations.

The item I received from Dakota Gifts was a Baby First Curl and Tooth Silver Box Set. The baby gift set comes  in an attractive jewelry type box that would look gorgeous wrapped in a small length of ribbon. The box is inside of an outer protective sheath and arrived in perfect condition.

The silver boxes each feature a 3-D rendering of a friendly bear eating from a pot of honey. A couple of bees are buzzing around the bear’s head, with their wings slightly overlapping the frame. The silver cases are both very cute and very classy. They will make a sentimental keepsake holding memories that we will fondly reminisce about with our children someday.

dakota silver box set We chose to have both of our childrens’ names on the silver boxes, and we are using small labeled zip lock bags to keep their hair and teeth separated. It may look more attractive to have loose hair and teeth inside the ornate boxes, but I still love having a nice way to store and display these memories.

The engraving is fantastic and I only wish I had a good enough camera to  show it off properly. We would have been delighted to receive this as a baby shower Dakota Gifts - Rivers Curl in a Silver Boxgift, or even for our son’s first birthday. Being the proud parent that I am, I would have been thrilled to receive this unique gift for my birthday. This box set also makes an ideal baptism or christening gift for Catholics.

We have only cut River’s hair so far, but until we received this personalized baby keepsake we were keeping his first curl in a ziplock in the drawer. Now it sits beautifully on our bedroom dresser waiting for Zen’s first haircut.

Baby First Curl and Tooth Silver Box Set is only $29.95 and is personalized forDakota Gifts Serving Tray - Personalized Wedding Gift free. Like all of their gifts, the set comes with Dakota Gift’s full “The Dog Ate It” Guarantee.

There are tons of great gifts and gift ideas at http://dakotagifts.com all neatly categorized by occasion, recipient, or holiday. The personalization is all professionally done, the prices are reasonable, and the shipping is fast. I highly recommend Dakota Gifts for anyone who needs a perfect gift for practically any event.

The Foundry Field Recordings are a great band from Columbia, Missouri led by vocalist/guitarist Billy Schuh. They are on Emergency Umbrella Records, an indie record label featuring many talented bands. This video for Holding The Pilots/Holding the Facts is 3 years old, but it deserves to be seen by more people.

The Importance of Insurance for WAHMs

Aug 27th, 2010 Posted in Business | one comment »

Life RingsNobody can deny the importance of being insured. Life is unpredictable and misfortunes will happen. That is why we carry all manner of insurance including health insurance, life insurance, property insurance, auto insurance, disability and more.

WAHM silhouettes_6One type of insurance that Work At Home Moms (WAHMs) sometimes overlook is business health insurance. When someone is starting a business, it is easy to get caught up in expenses such as supplies, advertising, and product distribution. However, it is equally important when staring a business to  protect your investments with Small/Medium Business (SBM) Insurance .

There are several types of SBM Insurance necessary to ensure your business will survive misfortune. These various kinds of insurance are similar to what most of us carry for personal protection, only expanded to protect businesses. Here are some insurance options and the reasons they are important.

If you are manufacturing a product, consider what would happen if your raw materials got ruined in a fire. Business Property Insurance would prevent your business dreams from going up in smoke.

What if a client got injured by one of your products? Even if the injury is the result of product misuse, a lawsuit could cost you everything without the aid of General Liability Insurance.

If you get sick or injured it may be hard to fulfill your own job requirements.  That is why health and disability insurance are important. Any business with two or more employees can be eligible for a group health insurance plan.

Whether you are a small business owner or thinking of starting a small business, be sure to consider the cost of insurance in your business plan. Get quotes from several reputable carriers, look over the plans offered, and find the best rate to suit your needs. Most importantly, be prepared by making insurance a priority.

This Last Crazy Week

Aug 25th, 2010 Posted in Family | 7 comments »

I am supposed to be on my way to go see the Wiggles right now. Instead I am in a hospital room typing on virus-infected netbook, where my wife is preparing to have her gallbladder removed tomorrow. I don’t want to be a downer for anyone because I know how it is. So many times I will be in a great mood reading my favorite blogs and then suddenly stumble upon a post about suffering.  Every day people are getting sick, divorced, children go missing, cars crash, floodwaters sweep people away, and countless other tragedies befall people all over the world.

I am actually quite thankful at the moment. For the last week my wife has has bouts of incredible pain and nausea. She has been using heating packs for the pain in her back, doubled over with pain in her stomach, and unable to keep food, liquids, or medicine in her system due to vomiting. We tried several types of medicine before finally going to St. Mary’s convenient care on Saturday.

After a check of her symptoms they told her it seemed to be her gallbladder and recommended that we make an appointment with her doctor. Sunday night, she was in such pain that we decided that we were going to the emergency room the next morning. Then on Monday morning we got a call from the nursing home in Vincinnes informing us that Becca’s Grandpa was  dying.  Instead of going to the emergency room, we took the hour long drive out to see him.

He slept most of the time we were there, but he woke up a few times to take his medicines and he spoke a few times. I am glad that we were able to say goodbye, because yesterday morning he passed away at age 85.

Before going to the emergency room, Becca checked her email and Facebook account. She had a message from a r/l friend on her Facebook that included a supposed link to a video. She clicked the link and everything went haywire. She was running both Avast and Ad-Aware but a redirect virus called Asklots infected her netbook. The crazy thing is that she had been waiting for a response from this particular friend when the infected message arrived.

Now, anytime a search is done through Google, Yahoo, Bing, or any other major search engine, the browser gets redirected to alternate sites. I tried fixing it last night with multiple programs, but have had no success. I will be reformatting it as soon as I find someone with an external cd-rom drive that I can borrow. In the meantime, I am spending most of my time in the hospital.

When we arrived in the emergency room, we had no idea that they would keep her. After performing an ultrasound they discovered that she had gallstones, and one of the stones had slipped into a bile duct. The stray gallstone blocked a passage in her body causing an inflamed liver and swollen pancreas.

They told her that she would not be able to go to her Grandpa’s visitation and will most likely miss his funeral as well. Of course she is missing the Wiggles today, and so am I. This was going to be my first event review, but I would never leave Becca to go through surgery alone. I contacted my parents and they are going to take River and Zen to Cincinnati. I will have a review for you, but it will be in River’s words and not mine. Maybe he will talk about his trip on video and I can post that for everyone.

This is the first surgery Becca has ever had, but she is taking it well. The anti-nausea and pain medications have her feeling better than she has all week. Right now, I am waiting for her to come back from a procedure where camera is being stuck down her throat. I can’t remember the name and can’t look it up because I will be redirected.

She is very very hungry but otherwise in good spirits. They have had her on a liquid diet since Tuesday morning and she wasn’t able to keep food down for most of the previous week. On the bright side, she wanted to lose a little bit of weight and her illness is making it easy to do.

This has been a rough week, but it could be so much worse. I am thankful that we got to see her Grandpa because I would rather offer my prayers to someone living than someone who has already passed away. The pictures I posted in Wordless Wednesday and this post, are from nearly two years ago, but I do not have any recent pics on this netbook I’m on.

I am glad that my son is getting to have the time of his life, even if I cannot be there to see him. I am greatful that Becca’s condition can be fixed by the doctors. So many people suffer through incurable and chronic diseases and for a few days I was worried for her.

Last, and probably least, I am glad Becca owns this netbook.  It has a nasty virus that makes it slow as all get-out, but I’m connected to the internet. I am behind on my giveaway posts, reviews, and promotions but at least I can explain why.

This has been a crazy week, but all in all it isn’t really that bad. Bill lived a good life and died peacefully, Becca will be fine, and River is ecstatic.. God is good.
