Zen ran up while I was photographing River's finger

River has always begged to play my guitar. He has several toy guitars and a small guitar with strings that will not stay in tune, but he has always wanted my Takamine EG540 SC.

I actually quit playing guitar for a long time because River would always try to grab it and strum the strings while I play. I didn’t want to make it a discipline issue so I just put the guitar away. Lately however, I’ve been letting him play it as long as he treats it somewhat gently.

About a week ago, we played guitar together for about 30 minutes, me on his guitar and him on mine. He actually made up random lyrics like I used to always do. Dang those moments when I am wishing I had a Flip camcorder, but unfortunately don’t  :/

Anyway, he told me after awhile that his finger hurt. I thought it might be a bit sore, but I never expected him to have the blister that he had. It looks as bad as the blisters I used to get when I was nineteen trying to learn to play my first guitar. I applied some Neosporin and a Band-aid after taking several lousy shots of his finger with my outdated Nikon Coolpics L1. Click the photo to enlarge it.

He still wants to keep strumming my guitar and I am letting him. I really want to get him a 3/4 guitar with a solid top and nice tone. If he is going to get blisters like this, he ought to get them learning to play something more his size.

But for now, River has his first blister from playing guitar. Is it weird that I think it’s kind of cute?

Green car, plastic golf clubs, sock hat and Yo Gabba glasses = fun!

Every Funny Foto Friday, I add talk bubbles to various pictures and put them on my website. This week, I had a talk bubble with River saying, “I’m eating this golf club because I’m trying to putt on some weight!” I have now removed the bubble, and am just using the picture for this weeks Funny Foto Friday. I did this because I have decided to also use this photo as my entry in a funny kids’ contest I found at 5 Minutes For Mom.
