How Clean Is Your House?

I have been watching How Clean Is Your House on the BBC station for about six months, and it is now one of my favorite shows on television. The show centers on two women, Kim Woodburn and Aggie MacKenzie, who travel to some of the filthiest homes in England. At these homes, Kim and Aggie meet with the owners and try to find out how their homes became so disgusting.

After talking to the owners, they take sample swabs from different parts of the houses and have them analyzed for viruses, bacteria, and other microscopic nasties. After discerning the dangers of living in such horrific habitats, they commence to cleaning.

Please do not confuse this show with the American show, Clean House. The American version features a star lacking the charisma and personality of HCIYH’s main stars, and also showcases houses that are not nearly as messy.  After seeing the foulness of the homes Kim and Aggie visit, I no longer feel bad about the clutter in my own house.

Kim and Aggie share many inventive cleaning tips each episode, but what really makes the show work is the great chemistry they have with each other. Kim seems to be the more dominant of the two, but they both know how to put their foot down when it comes to abolishing dirt. As the cleaning progresses, the two women have a very humorous way of parleying with each other, that makes the show just as entertaining as it is informative. Both the ladies have a slightly disturbing habit of sniffing some of the most repugnant objects (ex. clumps of muck in clogged drains) ever witnessed, but I guess that’s just part of the show.

Besides the personalities of the two stars, they offer a lot of useful information. I have used some of the tips (at my own risk) offered, and they really do work. In the future, I may share some of the suggestions that I follow, on this blog. In the meantime I recommend watching this show yourself.

The Lifetime television network has recently began airing How Clean is Your House?. Having the show on two stations, means there are twice as many opportunities to catch it when it is on. I don’t normally watch Lifetime, since it is a station specifically for women, but HCIYH is exceptional. Check it out!
