Good Grief Howie Mandel

Does anyone remember the 1990s Fox television series Good Grief starring Howie Mandel? I have the complete series of Get A Life on DVD, and the show is mentioned during closing credits on several episodes of the first season. I wish either the studios would release Good Grief on DVD, or else somebody could find a copy and release it as a torrent on Pirate Bay or isoHunt.

I would think that the popularity of Deal or No Deal, and Howie Mandel in particular, would cause a great interest in Good Grief. Maybe I’m just biased because I have been a fan of Mandels since the days when he would put a rubber glove over his head and blow it up with air from his nostrils. I was too young to get most of his jokes at the time, but anyone that blows up gloves with his face is bound to make people laugh whether the audience is five-years old or fifty (or older).

Mr. Mandel’s comedy act was only the beginning of my admiration for the man as a performer. Before Good Grief, Mandel performed the voice of a very cute and funny little cartoon boy.

The year 1990 marked the beginning of that wonderful and endearing cartoon, Bobby’s World. This is another show that I have not seen for years, but would love to find on DVD or a torrent site. The strange thing about Bobby’s World, is that it was a successful show..at least I think it was. I have a couple of plastic Bobby’s World figures, and I would think that if they were making Bobby’s World toys, that somebody must have liked the show (besides me).

The same year Bobby’s World began, Mandel starred in another great show. While the extremely low-rated Fox network was changing the face of television with groundbreaking shows such as Married With Children and The Simpsons, Howie Mandel was cast in a show that should have joined the ranks of those other great series.

Mandel’s show, Good Grief ,  was easily one of the funniest sitcoms of all-time, and the Fox network was the perfect place to air it. Then after thirteen episodes, the comedic masterpiece was canceled. Maybe the show was ahead of its time, or else the world was not ready for Howie. Now, almost 20-years later, Mandel is one of the hottest celebrities in the world.

I think it is time for a DVD release of Good Grief. I am sure that many people would buy it just for the curiosity factor. Few people that I have asked remember the show. Heck, most people don’t even seem to remember that Howie Mandel used to have hair.
